Two Café in Korea

Nowadays, many kinds of café have sprung up special kind of café. And there are two places that I remember, Starbucks and Soo-yeon San-bang. Starbucks is one of the most popular café in Korea while Soo-yeon San-bang is a unique traditional teahouse. When I went both café, I could feel not only the differences, but also the similarities between them.

There are some similarities that Starbucks and Soo-yeon San-bang are both in common, function of the place, café. They are both the places where people can drink various kinds of coffee or tee, chatting with friends or families. They both have rooms with tables, clerks who serve the coffee or tee, counters and ornaments for enjoying. In addition, people can have nice time and sometimes they can work or read books. On the other hand, Starbucks and Soo-yeon San-bang are different in appearance, mood and kinds of tee they serve. Soo-yeon San-bang is a kind of Korean house because it was actually the house of Lee Chung-Jun, one of the famous Korean writers, and in 1999, it was changed into café. It is the only one, not a chain store and is located quite far from the downtown. In there, people sit on the floor with sitting cushions and it has only 3 small rooms where only 6 tables in it. On the contrary, Starbucks is located almost anywhere in the Korean cities and often located in the center of the city.  It is usually occupied one floor of a building or sometimes, the whole buildings. In Starbucks, there are more tables than Soo-yeon San-bang and people sit with chairs. People should order at the counter and take coffee or tea by themselves. Second thing is the mood of the places. Atmosphere of Soe-yeon San-bang is antique and relaxed. Serving is also slowly and people usually talk in a silent voice. But Starbucks is more energetic, crowded and there are many people who work with their notebooks alone. Finally, in Starbucks, there are various kinds of coffee and tea and also sell some kinds of bread. But in Soo-yeon San-bnag, there is no coffee, but only few kinds of tee, especially traditional tea such as Ssanghwa tea and Chtysanthemum tea and benefits of each tea were written on the menu. So, people decoct tea and drink them slowly while people use straws to drink in Starbucks.

Both places were impressed for me because they have their own appearances and mood. Starbucks is more modern, energetic and busy while Soe-yeon San-bang is antique, traditional and slow. But, they are both the places where people come and spend nice time, drinking delicious beverage.

    Two Café in Korea

Nowadays, many kinds of café have sprung up special kinds of café.

In both places, we can see that people sit together, chatting with their friends in loud or in silence voices while they drink beverages with sweet dessert. Also, we can use the Internet in both places, too. In Starbucks, there are place for using notebooks and even in Soo-yeon San-bang, the old house, we can access to the Internet service by using the electronic devices.

On the contrary, Starbucks is located almost anywhere in the Korean cities and often located in the center of the city. It is usually occupied one floor of a building or sometimes, the whole buildings. But in Soo-yeon San-bnag, there is no coffee, but only few kinds of tee, especially traditional tea such as Ssanghwa tea and Chtysanthemum tea.
